Enhancing a Community-Wide System for SBIRT in the Educational Setting in Flathead County

Project Term: 12 months; 2020-2021
Grant Amount: $50,000

This project will help the Flathead City-County Health Department (FCCHD) to develop and implement a youthfocused Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) model in Kalispell. As part of this project, FCCHD will implement a system for SBIRT with focus on youth in educational settings and will coordinate with existing communitywide efforts. The project will use funds to support FCCHD staff training in SBIRT, a project coordinator, and public health associate through the Centers for Disease and Control. Project partners include Kalispell Regional Health, Flathead Community Health Center, Intermountain, and the alternative school in the Flathead School District. The project is expected to more robustly identify, reduce, and prevent problematic substance use with youth in educational settings and more strategically coordinate existing communitywide SBIRT efforts.
